What Are Mouth Ulcers?
Mouth ulcers are small, painful sores that appear inside the mouth, usually on:
-
Inner cheeks & lips
-
Underneath the tongue or floor of the mouth
They are not contagious but can be uncomfortable, especially while eating, drinking, or brushing teeth.
What Causes Mouth Ulcers?
Mouth ulcers may develop due to:
-
Physical damage – Biting cheeks, brushing too hard, sharp dental work
-
Stress or anxiety – Can trigger recurring ulcers
-
Hormonal changes – Pregnancy, menstruation
Certain foods can also trigger ulcers, including:
-
Chocolate, cheese, coffee
-
Spicy foods, almonds, peanuts
-
Tomatoes, wheat flour, strawberries
How to Treat Mouth Ulcers
Mouth ulcers usually heal on their own within two weeks, but Bonjela Gel can help relieve discomfort.
To avoid aggravating ulcers:
-
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush
-
Drink cool beverages through a straw
-
Eat softer foods
-
Avoid spicy, salty, acidic, or crunchy foods
-
Have regular dental check-ups
To reduce the risk of developing ulcers:
-
Avoid biting your cheeks
-
Ensure dentures and braces fit properly
-
Limit exposure to stress and fatigue
How Does Bonjela Gel Help with Mouth Ulcers?
Bonjela contains two key active ingredients:
-
Choline Salicylate – Pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory, reduces swelling & discomfort
-
Cetalkonium Chloride – Antiseptic, prevents infection by eliminating bacteria
Together, these ingredients ease pain and protect ulcers while they heal.
How to Use Bonjela Gel
For mouth ulcers & sore spots:
-
Apply 1cm of Bonjela to the affected area and gently massage in
-
Reapply every 3 hours if necessary
For denture sores:
-
Apply 1cm of Bonjela to sore areas
-
Wait at least 30 minutes before reinserting dentures
-
