How Does Gaviscon Advance Peppermint Flavoured Suspension Work?

Gaviscon belongs to a group of medicines called reflux suppressants, which:

  • Form a protective layer over stomach contents to prevent reflux

  • Keep stomach acid away from the food pipe lining, reducing irritation

  • Ease symptoms of heartburn and indigestion

 

Ideal for those suffering from acid reflux and indigestion symptoms.

Directions for Use

  • Take 5–10ml after meals and before bedtime

  • Follow instructions in the patient leaflet or consult a GP or pharmacist

 

Side Effects & Warnings

  • No common side effects reported, but reactions can occur

 

Seek urgent medical attention if you experience:

  • Swelling of the face or throat

  • Skin rash

  • Breathing difficulties

  • Loss of consciousness

 

Report any unexpected effects via the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Do NOT take if allergic to any ingredients.

Consult your GP or pharmacist before use if:

  • You have reduced kidney function

  • You are following a low-sodium diet

 

Taking Other Medicines

Consult your GP or pharmacist before use, especially if taking:

  • Tetracyclines (antibiotics)

  • Fluoroquinolones (antibiotics)

  • Iron salts

  • Thyroid hormones

  • Chloroquine (for malaria prevention)

  • Bisphosphonates (for osteoporosis treatment)

  • Estramustine (for prostate cancer treatment)

 

Wait at least 2 hours before or after taking these medications.

Age Restrictions

  • Suitable for adults and children over 12 years old

  • Not suitable for children under 12
