What Causes Diarrhoea?

Short-term diarrhoea can result from:

  • Stomach virus or food poisoning (usually clears within a few days)

  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)

  • Food intolerances or allergies

How Does Imodium Instant Melts Work?

  • Contains 2mg loperamide hydrochloride to slow down bowel movement

  • Enhances fluid absorption to restore digestive balance

  • Do not take while breastfeeding—medicine may pass into breast milk

  • Pregnant? Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use

 

Medication Interactions – Consult Before Use If Taking:

  • Ritonavir (HIV treatment)

  • Quinidine (heart rhythm/malaria treatment)

  • Oral desmopressin (excessive urination control)

  • Itraconazole or ketoconazole (fungal infections)

  • Gemfibrozil (cholesterol management)

 

Can I Drive After Taking Imodium Instant Melts?

  • May cause drowsiness, dizziness, or fatigue—avoid driving if affected

 

How to Take Imodium Instant Melts

  • Start with 2 tablets, then take 1 after each loose bowel movement

  • Let the tablet dissolve on your tongue before swallowing—do not chew

  • Do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours

 

Duration of Use

  • Short-term diarrhoea: Maximum 48 hours—seek medical help if symptoms persist

  • IBS-related diarrhoea: Up to 2 weeks for repeated episodes, but no more than 48 hours for a single attack

When NOT to Use Imodium Instant Melts

Avoid use if:

  • Children under 12 & IBS patients under 18

  • Allergic to loperamide or any listed ingredients

  • Severe diarrhoea after antibiotic use

  • Flare-up of inflammatory bowel disease (e.g., ulcerative colitis)

  • Constipation or swollen abdomen

  • Acute dysentery (bloody stools & fever)

 

Consult a doctor before use if you:

  • Have AIDS & develop abdominal swelling

  • Have liver disease

  • Have had diarrhoea lasting more than 48 hours

  • Are experiencing severe diarrhoea

 

Additional IBS Considerations – Speak to a Doctor Before Use If:

  • Over 40 & experiencing IBS symptoms after a long break

  • Over 40 & symptoms are unusual

  • Recently passed blood in stools

  • Experiencing severe constipation or nausea

  • Lost appetite or losing weight

  • Experiencing painful or difficult urination

  • Have a fever or recently travelled abroad

 

Possible Side Effects – Stop Use & Seek Medical Help If You Experience:

  • Allergic reactions – Wheezing, breathlessness, fainting, facial/throat swelling

  • Severe skin reactions – Blistering or peeling rash

  • Loss of consciousness or uncoordinated movements

 

Other possible side effects include:

  • Itchiness, hives

  • Abdominal pain, bloating

  • Difficulty urinating

  • Severe constipation

  • Tingling or burning sensation on the tongue

  • Narrow pupils

  • Nausea, constipation, flatulence

  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness

  • Vomiting, indigestion

  • Dry mouth, fatigue
