About the Medicine
What is the Wegovy® Tablet (semaglutide)?
Wegovy® is now available as a once-daily prescription tablet containing semaglutide — the same active ingredient as the Wegovy® injection. It is designed to support weight loss and long-term weight management in adults who meet specific clinical criteria.
Wegovy® tablets are taken once daily and are prescribed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Like the injection, the tablet belongs to the class of medicines known as GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), which mimic a naturally occurring hormone that regulates appetite and calorie intake.
In the UK, Wegovy® is only available following a clinical assessment to ensure it is safe and appropriate for your individual health profile. At Happy Pharmacy, Wegovy® tablets are prescribed by qualified clinicians and dispensed by a UK GPhC-registered pharmacy.

Tablet vs Injection — what's the difference?
Both contain semaglutide and work via the same GLP-1 mechanism. The tablet is taken once daily orally; the injection once weekly subcutaneously. The injection currently has the cardiovascular risk reduction indication. Your prescriber can advise which is more appropriate for you.
Why Wegovy® Tablets
Benefits you need to know about
Beyond weight loss, the Wegovy® tablet shares the same clinically proven benefits as the injection — without needles.
No needles — a daily tablet instead
For patients who prefer not to inject, the Wegovy® tablet offers the same active ingredient in a convenient once-daily oral form. No pens, no needles, no sharps disposal required.
Clinically proven weight loss
In a 64-week clinical study, adults taking the Wegovy® tablet (25 mg) lost an average of 14% of their body weight — approximately 33 lb (around 15 kg) based on a starting weight of 235 lb.
Proven cardiovascular protection
Wegovy® is the only weight management medicine with a cardiovascular risk reduction indication. The SELECT trial showed a 20% relative risk reduction in major cardiovascular events, independently of weight lost.
Regulates appetite naturally
Semaglutide shares 94% sequence similarity with the body's own GLP-1 hormone, which naturally regulates appetite and calorie intake. Targets key areas of the brain to reduce hunger and increase feelings of fullness.
Additional health improvements
Adults using the Wegovy® tablet also experienced improvements in waist size, cholesterol levels, and blood sugar control alongside primary weight loss. Wegovy® is not specifically approved to treat these conditions.
Clinical Evidence
Clinically proven Wegovy® tablet results

Around 8 in 10 patients (76%) taking the Wegovy® tablet achieved 5% or more weight loss, compared with 31% taking placebo. Additionally, 28% of adults (about 1 in 4) achieved 20% or more weight loss, compared with just 3% on placebo.

Frequently asked questions

Around 76% achieved at least 5% weight loss, and 28% achieved 20% or more. Individual results vary.
Both contain the same active ingredient — semaglutide — and work via the same GLP-1 mechanism. The key difference is delivery: the tablet is taken once daily by mouth, whereas the injection (FlexTouch® pen) is administered once weekly subcutaneously. The injection currently has additional indications including cardiovascular risk reduction. Your prescriber can advise which is more appropriate for you.
Wegovy® is not anticipated to reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. However, if you experience severe vomiting or diarrhoea, this could theoretically affect pill absorption — follow your pill's missed-dose guidance or seek pharmacist advice. Women of childbearing age are recommended to use contraception whilst taking semaglutide.
Wegovy® is a prescription-only medicine (POM) in the UK and must only be purchased from a GPhC-registered pharmacy following a clinician-approved consultation. At Happy Pharmacy, your consultation is reviewed by a UK-registered prescriber. Never buy Wegovy® from unregulated websites or social media sellers — counterfeit products carry serious health risks.
