A holiday, busy period or change in routine can make your usual eating and activity habits feel harder to restart. A few meals or days away from your normal pattern do not undo your progress. The most helpful next step is usually a calm return to the routines that support you, rather than a restrictive “reset”.

How do you get back on track after a holiday?

Start with the next meal or next day, not a punishment plan. Return to regular meals, drink enough fluid, move in ways you enjoy, and give yourself time to settle back into your routine. Scale weight can vary after travel, restaurant meals, alcohol or a change in salt and carbohydrate intake, so focus on the trend over several weeks rather than one weigh-in.

A practical first-week plan

  • Plan a few straightforward meals and snacks so you are not deciding when you are already hungry.
  • Include protein, fibre and fruit or vegetables where you can, without trying to compensate by skipping meals.
  • Restart everyday movement gently, such as walks, cycling or a class you enjoy.
  • Use sleep and regular hydration as part of your routine, especially after travel.
  • Track one or two measures that are useful to you, but avoid judging yourself by day-to-day fluctuations.

If you use Mounjaro or Wegovy

Continue your medicine exactly as prescribed. Do not double a dose or change your dose because of a holiday meal, a short-term change in weight, or guilt about eating. If travel, illness or a missed dose has affected your routine, check the advice for your medicine and speak to your prescriber or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Smaller, balanced meals can be easier if your appetite is reduced or you have nausea. Our guide to what to eat on Mounjaro or Wegovy covers practical food choices during treatment.

When to seek support

Speak to your prescriber if you have persistent vomiting, diarrhoea, difficulty keeping fluids down, or side effects that do not settle. If you are considering prescription treatment for the first time, it should be assessed by a qualified prescriber; you can start with a weight-loss consultation.
