Is there a Mounjaro pill? No. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed in the UK only as a once-weekly injection, and there is no approved tablet form of tirzepatide. The confusion comes from two oral GLP-1 medicines that do exist: the Wegovy pill and Foundayo, a daily tablet made by the same company as Mounjaro. Both are prescription-only and chosen by a prescriber after an assessment. Anything sold online as a Mounjaro or tirzepatide tablet, drop or patch is not a licensed UK medicine.
Mounjaro is now one of the best-known weight-loss brands, so it is easy to assume it must also come as a tablet. Foundayo has added to the confusion. It is made by Eli Lilly, the company behind Mounjaro, and is often described as “the Mounjaro pill”, even though it contains a different medicine. Search results and social media also carry products promoted as tirzepatide tablets, and that is where most of the risk lies.
What Exists and What Does NotMounjaro contains tirzepatide, a peptide. Peptides are normally broken down by stomach acid and digestive enzymes before they can be absorbed, which is why many of them have to be injected. The UK product information describes Mounjaro as a solution for injection given once a week under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. As far as we are aware, the manufacturer has not announced a tirzepatide tablet. If that changes, it will be announced by the manufacturer and the regulator, not by an online listing.
The Oral Options That Do ExistTwo oral GLP-1 medicines are available for weight management in the UK. Neither is a Mounjaro tablet, and each has its own product information, dosing and suitability checks.
| Wegovy pill | Foundayo | |
|---|---|---|
| Active ingredient | Oral semaglutide | Orforglipron |
| Made by | Novo Nordisk | Eli Lilly |
| How often | Once daily | Once daily |
| UK licensed use | Weight management | Weight management and type 2 diabetes |
| Prescription needed | Yes | Yes |
The Wegovy pill uses the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection, in a tablet made to survive digestion. Orforglipron is a small molecule rather than a peptide, which is why it can be absorbed as a tablet. It was authorised in the UK in 2026 for weight management and type 2 diabetes. Our guides explain how to take the Wegovy pill and how to take Foundayo.
| Weekly injection (Mounjaro, Wegovy) | Daily tablet (Wegovy pill, Foundayo) | |
|---|---|---|
| How often | Once a week | Every day |
| Convenience | No daily routine, but you need injection technique and fridge storage | No needles, but a daily habit, and some tablets have timing rules |
| Missed dose | Take within the window (4 days for Mounjaro, 5 for Wegovy) | Follow each tablet’s own missed-dose advice |
| Side effects | Mostly digestive: nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting | Also mostly digestive, and similar in type |
| Evidence | Strongest at higher doses | Differs by product, so check each one |
Neither format is better for everyone. Some people like the simplicity of one dose a week, while others would rather take a tablet than inject. Comparing numbers from different trials is not reliable, so it is better to look at each medicine’s own evidence. Our guides compare Mounjaro, Wegovy and the Wegovy pill, Foundayo and Mounjaro and the Wegovy pill and Mounjaro, and explain pills versus injections.
Questions That Help You Decide- Would you rather take a weekly injection or a daily tablet?
- Do you have type 2 diabetes? This affects which medicines are licensed and suitable.
- Have you had pancreatitis, gallbladder disease or other conditions that need caution?
- Are you planning a pregnancy, or using the contraceptive pill?
- What can you afford over the long term? See the cost guides for Mounjaro, Wegovy and the Wegovy pill.
If you already take one medicine and are thinking of changing, do not switch on your own. Starting doses depend on the medicine and how you tolerated the last one. Our guide to switching from the Wegovy injection to the tablet shows how a prescriber approaches this.
Read this before buying anything online
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine. Products sold as “Mounjaro tablets”, “tirzepatide pills”, “oral tirzepatide”, drops, sprays or patches are not licensed UK medicines, and some are counterfeit or contain unknown ingredients. Buy only from a GPhC-registered pharmacy after a clinical consultation.
- The product may contain no active ingredient, the wrong one or an unknown dose.
- It may be contaminated or made in unregulated conditions.
- There is no clinical evidence that a tablet, drop or patch containing tirzepatide works like the licensed injection.
- No prescriber checks your medical history, other medicines or pregnancy status.
- You have no recourse if something goes wrong.
The same applies to weight-loss patches and supplements sold as “GLP-1 boosters”. They are not equivalent to prescription medicines. Our guide to spotting fake weight loss injections explains the warning signs.
How to Check a Pharmacy Is Genuine- 1Look for the GPhC numberA UK online pharmacy must display its General Pharmaceutical Council registration number.
- 2Check the registerSearch the number on the GPhC register and confirm the name and website match.
- 3Expect a consultationA genuine service asks about your health, weight and medicines before prescribing.
- 4Be wary of bargainsVery low prices, no questions asked and “tablet” versions of injectable medicines are red flags.

Will There Ever Be a Mounjaro Tablet? It is possible that tirzepatide could one day be developed in an oral form, but there is no approved product and we cannot predict timing. Oral GLP-1 medicines are developing quickly, and the Wegovy pill and Foundayo already give tablet options to people who prefer them. Any future product would be prescription-only, with its own product information.
The bottom line
There is no Mounjaro pill. If you would rather avoid injections, two prescription-only tablets exist, and a prescriber can help you choose between them and the injections after an assessment. To start, use our free online consultation.
