Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture is a soothing, effective remedy designed to ease chesty coughs and sore throats.

How Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture Works

This medicine contains two active expectorants:

  • Liquorice & squill – Helps to break down and loosen mucus, clearing chest congestion

  • Levomenthol – Provides relief from nasal and chest congestion, often linked to chesty coughs and bronchitis

 

Directions for Use

Always follow the patient leaflet instructions or consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage:

  • Children aged 5 to 12 years – Take one 5ml spoonful every 4 hours

  • Adults – Take one or two 5ml spoonfuls every 4 hours

  • Do not exceed the stated dose

 

Side Effects

Most users tolerate Covonia well, but some may experience:

  • Mild allergic reactions – rashes, dermatitis, flushing, or itchy bumps

  • Increased sodium levels and water retention

  • Lower potassium levels in the body

 

If you notice any side effects, report them via the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Serious Side Effects – Seek immediate medical help if you experience:

  • Swelling of the face or throat

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Skin rash

  • Loss of consciousness

 

Warnings & Precautions

Do NOT use this medicine if:

  • You are allergic to any ingredients

  • You have a heart condition

  • You suffer from alcoholism

  • You experience breathing difficulties

  • You have increased intracranial pressure

  • You have liver, kidney, or heart issues

 

Contains a small amount of alcohol—avoid use if you have alcohol dependency.

Consult your doctor if:

  • You have diabetes or sugar intolerance (each 5ml dose contains 1.3g glucose & 1.3g sucrose)

 

Using Other Medicines

Consult a GP or pharmacist before use, especially if taking:

  • Carbenoxolone (for stomach ulcers)

  • Diuretics (water tablets)

 

Age Restrictions

  • Suitable for adults and children over 5 years old

  • Not suitable for children under 5

 

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding

  • Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place
