Description

Paracetamol 500mg is used to treat mild to moderate pain, such as: 

 

  • Headaches 

  • Migraines 

  • Toothaches 

  • Period pain 

  • Muscle pain 

  • Backache 

  • Rheumatic aches and pains 

 

How Paracetamol 500mg works 

 

Paracetamol 500mg works by blocking the chemical messengers in the brain that tell you when you have pain. It also helps your body to keep your temperature under control. 

 

Directions 

 

Always take Paracetamol 500mg exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Happy Pharmacy pharmacist has told you. 

Children aged between 10-15 years old: Take 1 tablet every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 4 tablets in 24 hours. 

Children over 16 years old and adults: Take 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours. 

Do not take these tablets for more than 3 days consecutively. 

 

Side effects 

 

Like all medicines, Paracetamol 500mg may cause side effects in some people, but these won't affect everybody. This medication is unlikely to cause any side effects. 

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme. 

 

Serious side effects 

 

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. 

 

Warnings 

 

Paracetamol 500mg may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if: 

 

  • You suffer from liver or kidney problems 

  • You suffer from alcohol dependency 

  • You suffer from non-serious arthritis and need to take painkillers every day 

 

Using/taking other medicines 

 

If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product. 

You must tell your healthcare provider if you are taking the following medication: 

 

  • Anticoagulant medicines e.g. warfarin 

  • Metoclopramide and domperidone for sickness and digestive disorders 

  • Cholestyramine to help control cholesterol levels 

  • The antibiotic flucloxacillin 

  • Any other medicine that contains paracetamol 

 

Age restrictions 

 

This medication is not suitable for children under 10 years old. 

 

Pregnancy and breastfeeding 

 

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Happy Pharmacy pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine. 

 

Storage information 

 

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
