What are Nurofen Cold and Flu Tablets?
This Nurofen product contains two active ingredients, ibuprofen and pseudoephedrine, that relieve symptoms of cold and flu, including aches and pains, headache, fever, sore throat, blocked nose and sinuses. 

Symptoms of cold and flu
Colds and flu share quite a few similar symptoms, but flu symptoms tend to appear suddenly and be more severe. A cold develops gradually.

Cold symptoms:

  • Blocked or runny nose

  • Sore throat

  • Headaches

  • Coughs

  • Sneezing

  • Raised temperature

  • Pressure in ears and face

  • Loss of taste and smell

Flu symptoms (in addition to the above):

  • Sudden fever (38°C or above) 

  • Aching body

  • Feeling tired or exhausted

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Loss of appetite

  • Diarrhoea or tummy pain

  • Feeling sick or being sick 

How can Nurofen help to ease cold and flu symptoms?
Nurofen Cold and Flu contains two active ingredients:

  • Ibuprofen – A Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) that relieves aches, pains, swelling, and fever.

  • Phenylephrine hydrochloride – A nasal decongestant that reduces swelling in the nasal passages, helping to clear congestion and relieve sinus pressure.

Taking this product with other medication
Do NOT take Nurofen Cold and Flu with other NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen, aspirin). Avoid taking with:

  • Corticosteroids

  • Quinolone antibiotics

  • Anti-coagulants

  • Heart stimulants

  • Blood pressure reducers

  • Diuretics

  • Immune suppressants

  • Mood stabilisers

  • HIV medications

  • Other decongestants

How to take Nurofen Cold and Flu
Swallow tablets whole with water.

  • Adults, elderly and children over 12: Take 2 tablets every 8 hours

  • Do NOT exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours

  • Do not use for more than 10 days

Warnings

  • For short-term use only

  • Take the lowest dose for the shortest time

  • If symptoms persist or worsen after 10 days, seek medical advice

Side effects
Stop taking and seek help if you experience:
Signs of internal bleeding:

  • Bright red or black stools

  • Vomiting blood or coffee ground-like material

Allergic reaction signs:

  • Breathing difficulty or wheezing

  • Dizziness or rapid heartbeat

  • Severe skin reactions (rash, peeling, blistering)

  • Swelling of face, lips, or throat 

Kidney problems:

  • Unusual urination

  • Cloudy or bloody urine

  • Pain in back or swollen legs

Aseptic meningitis symptoms:

  • Neck stiffness

  • Headache

  • Feeling or being sick

  • Fever 

Blood disorder signs:

  • Stomach pain

  • Jaundice (yellowing skin/eyes)

  • Dark brown urine

When should this product NOT be used?
Do not take if you:

  • Are allergic to ibuprofen, pseudoephedrine, aspirin, or other painkillers

  • Have had ulcers, perforations, or bleeding in the stomach

  • Have had asthma or facial swelling with NSAIDs

  • Have severe liver, kidney, or heart problems

  • Have high blood pressure, clotting issues, or breathing difficulties

  • Have an overactive thyroid or pheochromocytoma

  • Are taking MAOIs (within 14 days)

  • Are in the last 3 months of pregnancy

  • Are under 12 years old

Speak to your doctor/pharmacist before use if you:

  • Have asthma or chronic lung issues

  • Have heart, liver, kidney, or bowel conditions

  • Are dehydrated or a smoker

  • Are pregnant (first 6 months)

  • Have glaucoma, diabetes, high cholesterol, or an enlarged prostate

  • Have Raynaud’s phenomenon or autoimmune disorders like lupus

Storage

  • Store below 25°C

  • Keep out of sight and reach of children 

  • Do not use after the expiry date

  • Dispose of properly – do not flush or bin medicine waste
