Why the Wegovy® Pill Benefits you need to know about Beyond the convenience of a tablet, the Wegovy® pill brings the established power of semaglutide into a once-daily oral format.
💊
No needles, no injections A once-daily tablet — no pen, no needle and no sharps bin. For people who would rather not inject, it removes one of the most common barriers to starting treatment.
📈
Weight loss comparable to the injection In the OASIS 4 trial, once-daily oral semaglutide 25 mg delivered a magnitude of weight loss similar to injectable Wegovy® 2.4 mg — the first oral GLP-1 to match this level of result.
🧬
The same active ingredient — semaglutide Semaglutide mimics the GLP-1 hormone your body makes naturally, targeting areas of the brain that control hunger and fullness to help you eat less and feel satisfied for longer.
🍽️
Built around your morning routine You take one tablet on waking with a sip of water, then carry on with your day. Many people find a once-daily pill easier to build into their routine than a weekly injection schedule to remember.
🌍
From a globally trusted manufacturer The Wegovy® pill is made by Novo Nordisk, the makers of injectable Wegovy® and one of the most widely used semaglutide therapies worldwide.
🏥
Prescribed and dispensed in the UK At Happy Pharmacy, the Wegovy® pill is prescribed by qualified UK clinicians and dispensed by a GPhC-registered pharmacy — only where it is clinically appropriate for you.
About the Medicine What is the Wegovy® pill (oral semaglutide)?
The Wegovy® pill is a prescription-only weight loss tablet containing the active ingredient semaglutide — the same medicine found in the Wegovy® injection, reformulated to be taken by mouth. It is designed to support weight loss and long-term weight management in adults who meet specific clinical criteria. The Wegovy® pill is taken once daily and is prescribed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It belongs to a class of medicines known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which mimic a naturally occurring hormone that regulates appetite and calorie intake. To allow semaglutide — a protein — to be absorbed when swallowed, each tablet also contains an absorption enhancer (salcaprozate sodium, SNAC). In the UK, the Wegovy® pill is only available following a clinical assessment at Happy Pharmacy, prescribed by qualified clinicians and dispensed by a GPhC-registered pharmacy.
~16.6% mean weight loss with 25 mg pill at 64 weeks (OASIS 4, full adherence)
1 in 3 patients achieved ≥20% weight loss vs ~3% on placebo (OASIS 4)
25 mg once-daily recommended maintenance dose
Once daily a single tablet taken every morning
💊
GLP-1 receptor agonist — now in a pill Semaglutide mimics the GLP-1 hormone your body makes naturally, targeting areas of the brain that control hunger and fullness. Each tablet contains semaglutide, salcaprozate sodium and magnesium stearate.
Clinical Evidence Clinically proven Wegovy® pill results The Wegovy® pill is supported by the OASIS phase 3 clinical trial programme — around 1,300 adults with obesity or overweight across four trials.
~16.6% average body weight loss at 64 weeks with full adherence (OASIS 4, 25 mg)
8 in 10 patients lost at least 5% of body weight vs ~3 in 10 on placebo
1 in 3 patients achieved ≥20% weight loss vs ~3 in 100 on placebo
25 mg maintenance dose — the first oral GLP-1 to match injectable Wegovy® results
What the OASIS 4 trial showed In the OASIS 4 trial, once-daily oral semaglutide 25 mg produced an average body weight loss of approximately 16.6% at 64 weeks in patients with full adherence — and around 13.6% in the overall treatment-policy analysis, compared with roughly 2.2% on placebo. The weight loss seen with the Wegovy® pill 25 mg was broadly similar to that achieved with injectable Wegovy® 2.4 mg in earlier trials, making it the first oral GLP-1 to reach this level of result. Typical weight loss timeline
Treatment stage Dose Approximate timeframe Stage
Starting dose 1.5 mg once daily Month 1 Starter
First step-up 4 mg once daily Month 2 Titration
Continued step-up 9 mg once daily Month 3 Titration
Maintenance — full effect typically seen here 25 mg once daily Month 4+ Maintenance
*Based on average outcomes from the OASIS 4 trial. Individual results vary. Weight loss should always be achieved alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. The full treatment effect is usually seen at the recommended 25 mg maintenance dose.
Heart Health Wegovy® and cardiovascular risk reduction Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), which affects over 7.6 million people in the UK. More than 2 in 3 patients with a high BMI die from CVD.
Wegovy® is the only weight management medicine with a cardiovascular risk reduction indication In the SELECT trial — involving over 17,600 adults with overweight or obesity and established CVD, without diabetes — Wegovy® 2.4 mg reduced the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events by 20% relative risk reduction (1.5% absolute risk reduction) vs placebo, on top of standard of care. SELECT trial: HR 0.80; 95% CI 0.72–0.90; p<0.001. All patients treated on top of standard of care including CV risk factor management and healthy lifestyle counselling.
20% relative risk reduction in major cardiovascular events (SELECT trial)
📊
Heart protection works regardless of weight lost A prespecified analysis of the SELECT trial found that the cardiovascular benefit of Wegovy® was independent of the extent of weight loss — both patients who lost less than 5% and those who lost 5% or more experienced similar cardiovascular protection. This suggests potential mechanisms beyond weight loss alone.
Body Composition Preserving muscle while losing fat A common concern with weight loss treatments is whether muscle mass is lost alongside fat. The STEP UP trial provides reassuring evidence.
Body fat lost84.5%
Lean body mass lost15.5%
MRI sub-study analysis from the STEP UP trial confirmed that when patients lost weight with Wegovy®, the vast majority of that loss came from body fat, not lean muscle. The small reduction in lean mass was not clinically significant. Muscle function was assessed using a sit-to-stand test — there were no differences in functional muscle capacity between patients taking Wegovy® and those on placebo.

How to Take How to take your Wegovy® pill The Wegovy® pill works differently from a normal tablet — it must be taken on an empty stomach with only a small sip of water, then followed by a short wait. Think of it as Sip → then Go.
1
Sip — first thing in the morning Take 1 Wegovy® pill whole with a small sip of plain water (up to 120 ml). Take it on an empty stomach — at least 8 hours after you last ate.
2
Swallow whole Do not split, crush, cut, chew or dissolve the tablet. Do not take it with any liquid other than water.
3
Wait 30 minutes Wait 30 minutes before you eat any food, drink anything else, or take any other oral medicines. Use the time to start your morning routine.
4
Go — same way, every day Take your Wegovy® pill the same way at the same time each day. Most people find taking it in the morning easiest to remember. Consistency is key.
5
Keep it in the blister pack Always store each tablet in its original blister pack until you are ready to take it. Do not transfer the pills into another container.
6
If you miss a dose Simply skip the missed dose and carry on taking your Wegovy® pill as usual the next day. Do not take two tablets to make up for a missed one.
💡
Why the 30-minute wait? The wait allows your body to absorb the semaglutide properly. Eating, drinking or taking other tablets too soon reduces how well the medicine is absorbed and can make it less effective.
⚠️
Storage reminder Unlike the injection, the Wegovy® pill does not require refrigerated delivery. Store as directed on your packaging and in the Patient Information Leaflet. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Safety Information Wegovy® pill side effects Like all medicines, the Wegovy® pill can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Warnings & Storage Important safety information & storing your Wegovy® pill Talk to your prescriber before or during treatment if any of the following apply to you. ⚠️ Warnings & Precautions
💧
Dehydration The Wegovy® pill can cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea, which can lead to loss of fluids. Drink enough fluids to stay hydrated, especially if you have kidney problems.
🫁
Inflammation of the pancreas Tell your prescriber if you have ever had pancreatitis before starting treatment.
🩸
Diabetes The Wegovy® pill must not be used as a substitute for insulin. If you have diabetes, your prescriber may adjust your diabetes medicines. Used with a sulfonylurea or insulin, it can cause low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) — warning signs include cold sweat, pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, hunger, vision changes, drowsiness or trouble concentrating. Do not drive or use machines if you notice these signs.
👁️
Sudden changes to your eyesight Urgently contact your doctor if you notice sudden loss of vision or rapidly worsening eyesight — this may be a very rare side effect (NAION). Fast improvements in blood sugar can also temporarily worsen existing diabetic eye disease.
🫃
Delayed stomach emptying (gastroparesis) Talk to your doctor before use, as this may lead to serious gastrointestinal effects.
💊
Other medicines Tell your prescriber about all medicines you take — in particular levothyroxine (thyroid) and warfarin or similar oral blood-thinners, as you may need extra monitoring. Remember the 30-minute wait applies to all other oral medicines.
🤰
Pregnancy and breast-feeding Do not use the Wegovy® pill if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Use effective contraception while taking it, and stop at least two months before a planned pregnancy. If you become pregnant during treatment, contact your doctor straight away.
🚗
Driving and using machines The pill is unlikely to affect this, but some people feel dizzy, mainly in the first three months. Don't drive or use machines until you feel better.
🏥
Surgery Tell your doctor you are taking the Wegovy® pill if you are due to have surgery under general anaesthetic.

Wegovy Delivery Update – No Ice Packs Required

From May 2026, Happy Pharmacy will be delivering Wegovy without refrigerated packaging. We understand this may feel different if you’re used to receiving your treatment cold, so we want to reassure you that your medication remains safe, stable, and fully effective throughout delivery.

This update is based on manufacturer‑approved stability data and has been reviewed in line with guidance from the UK medicines regulator (MHRA).

Below you’ll find clear answers to the most common questions.

When is this change happening?

From May 2026, Wegovy orders from Happy Pharmacy will be delivered without ice packs or refrigerated packaging.

The manufacturer has carried out stability testing confirming that Wegovy remains safe and effective during delivery at room temperature. This has been reviewed and accepted in line with MHRA guidance.

Why didn’t my Wegovy arrive cold?

Wegovy no longer requires cold‑chain packaging during delivery.

We know this may feel unusual if you’ve previously received it chilled. However, the manufacturer’s stability testing confirms that Wegovy remains safe and effective at room temperature during transit, and this has been reviewed in line with MHRA expectations

Your medication is safe to use.

Nothing about the medicine itself has changed. The update reflects new stability data showing that Wegovy remains effective during delivery at room temperature.

Why is this safe?

Wegovy is a protein‑based medication, and like many medicines in this category, it can safely tolerate short periods at room temperature during delivery without affecting how it works.

What does this mean for me?

  • Your treatment is exactly the same
  • There is no change to how you use Wegovy
  • Once delivered, store your pen in the fridge as normal (2°C–8°C)

If you ever have concerns, our clinical and customer care teams are here to help.

Will this affect how well Wegovy works?

No. Wegovy will work exactly as before.

Approved stability testing confirms it remains effective during delivery at room temperature.

Why did Wegovy need refrigeration before?

Earlier guidance was precautionary. Updated stability data now shows that Wegovy can be delivered safely without refrigerated packaging while still meeting all safety and effectiveness standards.

What if my pen feels warm when it arrives?

This is completely normal.

The pen does not need to feel cold on arrival. Stability testing confirms it remains safe and effective during delivery at room temperature.

What temperatures should I avoid?

Wegovy can be safely delivered at room temperature (below 30°C).

If you believe your parcel may have been exposed to temperatures above this, please contact us and we’ll advise you on the next steps.

Does this apply to all weight‑loss injectables?

No. This update applies only to Wegovy.

Other treatments may have different storage or delivery requirements. We’ll always provide clear guidance for your specific medication.

What should I do if I’m worried about my delivery?

If you’re unsure or concerned, please get in touch.

Our clinical and customer care teams can review your order and provide clear advice.

Will all future deliveries be the same?

Yes — Wegovy will continue to be delivered without refrigerated packaging.

During unusually warm periods, we may use cold packaging if needed to ensure your medication stays within the recommended temperature range.

Do I need to change how I store Wegovy at home?

No changes are needed.

Store your pen in the fridge (2°C–8°C) as usual once it arrives.
If you have any questions, refer to the guidance included with your parcel or contact our team.

Once your order arrives, store your pen in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.

How should I store Wegovy?
